Packing Essentials When Moving to London for School

Moving to another city to complete your studies can both be both exciting and nerve-wracking. There’s this amazing feeling of getting to experience a whole new culture and meeting other people, but of course, you might be feeling a little nervous since you are not sure what’s coming for you.

Packing for your move to London can be a bit confusing, which is why below, we will discuss what you need to bring before finally moving into your student accommodation in London.

Your Travel Documents

Obviously, you already know that you have to bring your travel documents with you to the UK. As you are basically an alien or foreigner there, you have to make sure that all of your documents are complete before moving away from your home. Some of the most important travel documents you have to take with you are your passport, university documents, bank account details, CV, exam certificate, room insurance, a map of the city, accommodation contract, and your driver’s license (if you have one).

Protection from the Weather and the Outdoors

The UK usually has cold and rainy weather, so you would want to stock up on your raincoat and umbrella. Make sure that you’ll be getting a bag that can fit these two most of the time, as you would want to bring these with you at all times. Additionally, you should prepare your wardrobe for the cold weather. Make sure to get a couple of stuff you currently do not have, such as scarves, a shawl, coats, a couple of pairs of socks, jackets, and pullovers.

Electronics for Your New Home

You can buy these things as soon as you reach the UK, but do note that these can be quite expensive, especially since the cost of living in London is quite high. If you want to be able to save up, then make sure to bring a couple of electronics that you’d need at home. Some of the things that you would want to bring might include extension boards, adapters, a laptop, a camera, a printer, rechargeable batteries, and a network cable. These would not take up too much space in your luggage, so it would be well worth it to bring these with you.

Kitchen Utensils

Like with electronics, you can get your kitchen gear once you’ve reached London. However, if you have certain utensils that you are fond of using, then make sure to bring some (not all) of it with you. You would want to bring the things you know you’ll use all the time and leave the other ones behind. Your list should contain at least one cup, a saucepan, a couple of spoons and forks, a plate, a sturdy knife, plastic bags, and a few plastic bowls. You can buy these from London’s local shops, but if you want to bring your own, then pack only the essentials.

It would be wise to make a list of what you want and need to bring before packing for London. This way, you can be sure that you would not forget anything important. Good luck and have a safe trip!
