Is your skincare routine working for you? Does it give you the glowing skin you’ve always wanted? A major component of healthy skin is a naturally radiant complexion and it requires an extra bit of care to achieve.
Luckily for you, we have some tricks up our sleeve:
Regular cleansing
The key step to a luminous skin is a clear “canvas.” Microscopic debris, like oil, dirt and pollutants, clog the pores and cause your skin to look dull. When you wake up in the morning and before you sleep at night, wash your face by lightly massaging a small dollop of facial cleanser. Rub it in gently in circular motions, from the middle of your face and working your way outwards for full coverage.
Do the light cleansing daily and a deeper cleanse weekly by applying the face wash using a facial cleansing brush.
Exfoliation
A great way to boost the glow of your skin immediately is by exfoliating. The process removes the layer of dead cells that accumulate on your skin, making the surface smoother and clearer.
You can apply a physical exfoliant, such a face scrub, twice or thrice per week. You can also do chemical exfoliation once per week for dry or sensitive skin and up to three times for other skin types.
Supplement your exfoliation with a layer of moisturiser for additional radiance. Exfoliation also makes the skin more vulnerable to sun damage, so you will need to use a day cream or facial sunscreen for protection.
Choosing the right products
When shopping for topical treatments, such as moisturisers and serums, check the packaging for labels like “skin tone-evening” and “brightening”. Also, check for vitamin C, which is an antioxidant that blocks a pigment-producing enzyme and brightens skin. To lighten dark spots, search for products with niacinamide or vitamin B3. Ingredients like resorcinol and alpha-arbutin break down your pigment to even out your skin tone.
Go for brands that do not use harsh chemicals, such as Krave Beauty and REN Clean Skincare. Applying these brighteners daily illuminate your skin over time. You can see the effects within a few weeks and get optimal results in three months.
Staying hydrated
When you lack hydration, your complexion is dull and wrinkles are further accentuated. To keep your skin hydrated, apply a topical moisturiser in the morning and evening. Facial lotions and creams tend to be more hydrating than serums, oils and other formula.
Applying “glotions”
The new category of skincare and makeup hybrids called “glotions” gives you an instant glow. These products combine the hydration of moisturisers with the shimmer effects of highlighters.
Apply a glotion as you would with makeup. Smooth it on your face before makeup or wear it alone for a natural look. You can also use it to highlight your face.
Antioxidant-rich diet
What you eat affects the glow of your skin. Eat lots of berries, grapes and nuts, which are rich in antioxidants called polyphenols. This type of antioxidant fights free radicals to protect skin cells against UV damage.
Beauty should not only be skin deep and the same goes for your health. A radiant skin indicates a healthy body. Supplement your skincare routine with proper diet and exercise, for a healthy glow inside and out.
